De standaard in<br>de gegeven Thora was die van<br>God. Die lag z\u00f3 hoog, dat geen<br>sterveling het kon volbrengen.<br>De Thora eiste in situaties de<br>letterlijke dood van de zonen<br>van Isra\u00ebl. Als het ware doet<br>Paulus hier een stap terug en<br>wijst op het veroordelende van<br>de Thora. De overtreder wacht<br><em>veroordeling<\/em>. Waar de Thora<br>niet is, is ook geen overtreding<br>(Rom.4:15); want de wet geeft<br>verontwaardiging (toorn).<br>Immers: eerst veroordeling en<br>dan kon de straf (eventueel de<br>dood) volgen.<br>De heerlijkheid van het oude<br>verbond is: <em>het is<\/em> <em>Gods woord<\/em>.<br>De hoge, ideale standaard voor<br>de mens is bekend geworden in<br>die Thora.
